India's Progress Towards Wellness: A Pathway to Economic Prosperity

India's journey from illness to wellness, with its profound implications for economic prosperity, has been underscored by Bhubaneswar Kalita, the chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare. Kalita highlighted India's strides in healthcare evolution, notably surpassing the WHO's recommended doctor-to-population ratio of 1:1000 with an impressive ratio of 1:900.

In his address at the ASSOCHAM's second Awareness Summit on Illness to Wellness, Kalita emphasized the pivotal role of health and hygiene in fostering flourishing societies. He lauded India's progress in combating infectious diseases and prioritizing preventive healthcare, resulting in significant reductions in maternal, infant, and child mortality rates over the past decade.

Kalita stressed the imperative of empowering communities for universal health coverage, revealing the government's ambitious plan to establish a medical college in every district to address rural doctor shortages. He reiterated the transformative impact of government initiatives in promoting a health-conscious society and urged sustained efforts to ensure equitable access to healthcare and hygiene for all citizens. This call reflects a collective commitment to building a healthier and more resilient nation.
