Wondering why? Coronavirus and H.I.V have one thing in common – transmission by symptomless infected individuals (explained below).
So, we may have to wear masks, not knowing who may leave us infected, as a protective barrier to the virus as is condom to HIV.
Let’s understand more about it.
Coronavirus and H.I.V
Reports indicate that the novel coronavirus may stay for long. There is also a possibility that it may never go away if we go by the recent World Health Organization (WHO) statement.
Besides, it is now understood that even individuals without symptoms may transmit COVID-19. So, if there is a considerable transmission before even people are sick, how can one stop that?
Coronavirus and H.I.V. are similar in this aspect. Even those who spread H.I.V may feel fine. The condom is used as a barrier to prevent sexual transmission.
This means we may have to wear masks, not knowing who may leave us infected, as a protective barrier to the virus, as is condom to HIV.
Masks and Condoms
When it was discovered that condom acts as a barrier in transmitting H.I.V, various brands came up with innovative strategies and designs to encourage people for using them.
Similarly, masks may also require unique marketing strategies for inspiring people to use them. Masks are often considered to be problematic while using them, and people may need a push to use them.
Now, it may be necessary for more and more people to wear it in view of the fact that even asymptomatic patients can transmit the virus. To encourage this, both the government and the private players will have to put money on IEC campaigns (as they have done for condoms) and introduce varied budget to premium options so that it entices all sections of people. In that, they may also have to focus on wearing ease, comfort, and looks. Involving Bollywood and sports celebs may also be warranted.
Final Thoughts!!
COVID-19 is rapidly spreading across the globe. The spread of H.I.V. and coronavirus have one thing in common, that it can be possible by symptomless infected individuals. Similar to a condom, masks act as a barrier in preventing spread of the virus. So, to push people to use masks, it may need marketing just that like a condom.
