3 Things You Should Avoid Eating Late at Night

The three things you should avoid eating late at night are spicy foods, high-fat foods, and sugary snacks. These foods can cause digestive discomfort, heartburn, sleep disturbances, and blood sugar spikes that negatively impact sleep quality and overall health.

  1. Spicy Foods

Shawarma wrap on a white plate with sliced meat, fries, tomato, sauce, lemon, and herbs. Background has wooden texture. Vibrant, appetizing.

Spicy foods can trigger heartburn and indigestion, making it harder to relax and fall asleep comfortably. They may also increase body temperature, which interferes with restful sleep.

  1. High-Fat Foods

Pepperoni pizza slices, breaded chicken, and sweet potato fries on a wooden board. Bright reds and oranges create a warm, appetizing scene.

Greasy, fatty foods like chips, ice cream, pizza, and fried items are difficult to digest and can cause discomfort, acid reflux, and interrupted sleep. Large, heavy meals also delay the body’s transition into restful sleep.

  1. Sugary Snacks

Polka dot cups with pink and white ice cream, topped with sprinkles and chocolate bars. Sugar cones lie among colorful candy bits.

Treats such as chocolate, desserts, and sugary cereals can lead to spikes and drops in blood sugar, making it harder to fall and stay asleep. High sugar intake before bed often increases nighttime awakenings.

Avoiding these foods at night supports better sleep and overall health. Opt for lighter, sleep-friendly snacks instead, such as a small portion of dairy, whole-grain crackers, or herbal tea
